These pages contain a selective archive of newspaper cuttings and programmes covering most of the major events (and many minor ones) in the history of Hibernian Football Club from 1986 to the present day.

Since I moved from Edinburgh to Cambridge in late 1986 my good old Dad has been faithfully snipping out the football pages of The Scotsman newspaper and sending them down to me so that I can keep in touch with Scottish football, and Hibs in particular. These pages are therefore something of a tribute to his dedication rather than mine - and he doesn't even follow football!

On the increasingly rare occasions when I've managed to get to a game I've tried to collect a programme, and those are included, sometimes in place of press cuttings. They aren't always of the big games (neither are the cuttings) but always provide something of interest to the diehard Hibby (which you must be or you wouldn't be here).

This is a work in (slow) progress - I'll be adding pages in chronological order as and when I have time and will post notification of updates to the Hibs list and the Message Board at Hibs.net. If anyone has any information to add to any of the pages - personal memories, anecdotes, libel suits etc - please feel free to mail me at fraserp@quista.net. No comments on the budget web authoring please - like a team trained by Alex Miller, dull functionality is the watchword here.

13 September 2002

The hibLOG is going to take a short holiday, now that season 89-90 is done. Plus I'm just not going to comment on that game against Dunfermline. And I'm really going on a short holiday.

Since we're now up to the summer of 1990 however, that means two things. Italia '90, and Wallace Mercer (spit).

So first of all I'm going to turn my attention to a time when Scotland actually qualified for the finals of major tournaments, and also actually believed it had a chance of qualifying for the second round.

Then I'll get round to the painful, but ultimately uplifting tale of 'Hands off Hibs' and the FTB.

See you soon.

Singing Ringing Tree

Just like the frozen world in the old fairytale, Hibs' losing spell is broken. Spookily enough back in 1985 after six games without a point we also broke our duck against Motherwell.

At that time I was on a walking expedition up the West coast of Scotland, and arrived at Acheninver youth hostel on the Saturday afternoon. The warden was zonked out asleep in front of the hostel in the September sun with the radio tuned to the sports results and as he dozed I heaved a sigh of relief at the 1-0 victory over the Steelmen.

The warden woke up, and soon revealed himself to be a Hibby. Small world eh?

Super Deek

Deek Townsley, I take my hat off to you. Week after week he shrugs off the pelters he gets from fans and comes up with goals. Like Stuart Lovell before him he appears to be a player who receives no credit in his own back yard, and one day we will be sorry we hounded him out. Honest.

Scrapbook? What scrapbook?

Ok, I confess - no scrapbook updates this week. Season 1989-90 is complete.

Next up, however, a summer of very substantial interest as the Fat Tory Bastard launches his attempt to exterminate Hibs.

Meanwhile me and my Jambo pal are in bella Italia for the 1990 World Cup.

Give me a mo and I will present my very own photographic record of Scotland's tragi-comic exit from il mondiale, plus the sorry tale of Wallace Mercer's take-over bid. Just give me a week or two to get it together...
