Names on the
John Wood Maps for Dumfries & Galloway
and within the Pigot and Slater Directories

The personal-name and placenames data from the Dumfriesshire and Galloway John Wood Maps (Dumfries & Maxwelltown, 1819; Annan, 1826; Kirkcudbright, 1843 and Stranraer, 1843) have been recorded within an Access database. Extracts of personal and place-names for the five towns are provided below.
The database is also being employed to record some information from local directories and other maps, such as the O.S. 1:1056 1850 series. The end result will allow the collation of individal personal-names, placenames and street names over a range of dates and sources. The initial data from the Pigot & Coy.directories of 1825-26 for Dumfries and Maxwelltown is provided below.
