What Makes This Storytelling Experience So Different?
Because of the Theatrical nature of the shows, the instant visual impact of the set and props makes it immediately accessible to children, setting their minds racing with questions and ideas from the moment they enter the hall, even before meeting 'The Spellbinder'
  • These are Interactive Storytelling Performances which are fun packed, encompassing music, story and song.
  • Each performance is challenge-based, i.e. the children are encouraged to create their own Extended Stories, Poems and Scripts.
  • The stories are set around a variety of 'Spellbinder Treasures' which differ from show to show.
  • They encourage the children  to become 'Spellbinder Apprentices' by collecting their own 'treasures' and 'experiences' and writing, taping or relating stories and poems linked to them for a variety of audiences and purposes.

  •
  • The performances provide opportunities for the development of IT skills by encouraging the children to create their stories, poems, etc. on the PC and e-mailing them to 'The Spellbinder'.

  •
  • The performances also explore other aspects of childhood development such as 'Friendship', 'Self-belief' and 'Self-esteem', 'Bullying', 'Endeavour' and a 'Sense of Community'.

  •
  • Performances are supported by exciting colourful sets, music and effects.

  •
  • The Performances are guaranteed to leave the children 'SPELLBOUND' and eager to have a go at some form of writing and storytelling.
Challenges
As a follow up to the literacy challenges 'The Spellbinder' promises to send the authors of the 6 best efforts a special  'Spellbinder Certificate of Literacy Achievement' thereby keeping an ongoing supportive dialogue with the school
The children can send their literacy work to The Spellbinder via the Internet at the e-mail address
spellbinder.productions@quista.net
The shows are also designed to provide strong links with other Curriculum areas,  ART, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY, SCIENCE, HUMANITIES, RELIGIOUS EDUCATION and even MATHS.
Outcomes resulting from Spellbinder Visits
Many schools have now established Storytelling Circles with rewarding results. Schools have taken on board the use of 'Treasure Boxes' and 'Spellbinder Sticks' to inspire oral and written work.
Some schools have used the Performances to spearhead Literacy Drives and Initiatives covering several weeks with highly successful results.
For example, one school based their work upon the Millennium Time Traveller Show which resulted in Puppetry, Song Writing, The Development of Comic Strips, Newspaper Articles covering major Historical Events of the last 50 years, Drama Workshops, Story and Poetry Writing and Art & Craft activities all culminating in an afternoon's Presentation by the Children of their work for the Parents.
Many schools have now commented that not only have the children found Spellbinder visits
