Broxburn Athletic added the R. L. Rae Trophy to their silverware collection when they beat Sauchie 3-1 at Bo'ness. Despite having difficulty in making up a team, Broxburn won this match quite comfortably and they certainly held the ace in the pack with Frank Donachie who had one of his best ever matches in an Athletic jersey.
With the wind in their favour Broxburn were quickly on the attack and rained in on the Sauchie goal. Their fans had to wait until the 22nd minute before Donnelly smashed a 25-yard shot into the net. However, Sauchie fought back and one minute from the interval scored through Moran. They should have increased their lead immediately when Boyd missed an open goal from close in. In the second half the Stirlingshire team should have scored when McGarvie was desperately unlucky.
However, two minutes later Logan scored from close in to put the Athletic 2-1 in the lead. The matchwinner also stemmed from Logan. Going through on his own he was brought down in the penalty box by full-back Kelloch and Eddie O'Donnell made no mistake from the spot. Broxburn can take much credit out of this game as they had great difficulty in fielding a team.
