of Reres Park

Reres Park is a small, wall-enclosed wooded area surrounding a very small hill. The Front area [South facing] is mostly short grass with Scots Pine, Oak, Sycamore and Beech trees dotted around. The Back area [North facing] is of open woodland of Beech, including one solitary Copper Beech, plus some Oak and Sycamore. The Hill is similar but with Gorse Bushes and Lime Trees with some Scots Pine. Area measures roughly 150 metres x 150 metres

It was at Reres Park in 1992 [complete novice and no confidence in trying edibles] that I came across a riveting sight - the back area covered in what seemed hundreds of chunky Agaric-type fungi which I later identified as Lepista nuda [wood blewit]. Needless to say, now that I have found the delights in edible fungi I've never seen them in such numbers again

August 20: Boletus chrysenteron [red-cracked boletus], Collybia confluens [clustered tough-shank], Collybia peronata [wood woolly-foot], Marasmius oreades [fairy-ring champignon], Russula cyanoxantha [charcoal burner]

October 17: Didn't realise it's been so long since I visited Reres! Today there were few around which was surprising considering the amount elsewhere. There weren't many of the types I did find but at least a couple were more unusual though already seen elsewhere. Clitocybe nebularis [clouded agaric], Collybia butyracea [buttercap], Collybia confluens [clustered tough-shank], Collybia peronata [wood  woolly-foot], Geastrum triplex, Hygrocybe nigrescens [blackening wax-cap]*, Hypholoma fasciculare [sulphur tuft], Lepista nuda [blewit]
