Edible

WARNING: Don't eat any fungi you can't easily identify.
If you eat any of the Coprinus don't drink alcohol at the same time, or up to 24 hours afterwards, as this species contains a chemical which reacts badly to beers and spirits
-- so much so that it has been used in commercial treatments for alcoholism.

The following I've personally tasted and all are easily identified except A. campestris.
Two photos missing as conditions not always right for my primitive photographic equipment.

Agaricus campestris [field mushroom] : Very similar to the button mushrooms of shops. Taste was fine but I was nervous at the time as it was my first edible attempted and it can be confused with deadly poisonous types. On reflection I wouldn't try it again. Not found often.
Boletus badius [bay bolete]
: Another with marvellous flavour and texture.
Boletus edulis [cep or penny-bun] : Excellent. Real chunky form. Not found very often.
Cantharellus cibarius [chanterelle] :
A disappointment but I was expecting so much from reports that it was probably an anti-climax. Not found very often.
Hydnum repandum [hedgehog fungus] :
Similar to B. edulis being chunky and meaty. Very good and easily identified as it has spines rather than gills under its cap.
Lactarius deliciosus [saffron milk-cap]
: Meaty, good flavour. This quickly develops green spots. As long as it isn't covered in them and is firm to touch I take it.
Lepista nuda [wood blewit] : My favourite, superb flavour and texture.
Lycoperdon perlatum  : A puffball. Good taste when sliced and fried in butter. Only take it when very young and the flesh inside is pure white.
Suillus grevillei [larch bolete] : Not impressed at all. Slimy and unpalatable when fried. Maybe improved if different cooking method. Typically, this is very common!

                Poisonous

The following Poisonous types are fatal but quite rare in Tayside
Amanita gemmata Amanita phalloides Amanita verna
Amanita virosa Clitocybe dealbata Clitocybe rivulosa
Entoloma lividium Inocybe patouillardii
The following Poisonous types will make you very ill but are not always fatal.
I've seen them at least once and some have photographs
Amanita citrina Amanita muscaria Amanita pantherina
Amanita rubescens [if uncooked] Boletus piperatus Hypholoma fasciculare
Lepiota cristata Paxillus involutus Psilocybe semilanceata
Russula emetica Russula mairei
These Poisonous types will make you very ill but are not always fatal.
I've never seen them
Agaricus placomyces Agaricus xanthoderma Boletus luridus
Boletus satanus Entoloma sinuatum Gyromitra esculenta
Stropharia aeruginosa
