Altrincham and Bowdon Civic Society

The Civic Society exists to promote appropriate standards for the development of Altrincham, in order to create an environment which is pleasant, attractive and thriving for its citizens to live in and enjoy.

The Civic society was formed over 40 years ago to ensure that the highest standards for the development of Altrincham are achieved. Over recent years we have been particularly concerned to influence proposed major developments in our town, including Altrincham General Hospital, Altrincham Interchange, the Market area and Station Buildings.We address issues such as architectural design, traffic flow and car parking, along with supporting town centre shops and specialist traders.

 

In addition to major developments, the Society monitors planning applications for smaller developments in order to gauge their impact upon individuals, groups and businesses.
 
 

We also seek to protect and conserve important historic buildings, in order to retain the distinct character of the area. We have recently been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant which includes the creation of heritage trail panels, an historic plans website and the formation of the Altrincham Area Image Archive. Additionally, we are pro-active in the protection and creation of green spaces and tree planting schemes.
 

The society arranges regular open Management Committee meetings to discuss items of interest or concern and to inform members. The AGM is held in November and includes a variety of talks. Forthcoming meeting dates are as follows:
