Materials Sampling
Drill-Mate was featured in the THE CONCRETE SOCIETY journal
On display at this
years Concrete Day at Telford, organised by the Concrete Society in conjunction
with NCE, was a product never seen before. Called the Drill-Mate, it was
invented by Peter Noble of Noble Electronics in Altrincham and displayed
on the stand of Hammond Concrete Testing. Quite simply, the device acts
as a drill guide and, by enclosing the drill bit enables sampling even
under adverse conditions. Mike Owen, managing director of Hammond, said
"it beats catching sample concrete dust into a pipe". Designed for both
the DIY market and the professional electrician the Drill-Mate has a trade
price below £6:00, which should make it a standard feature of all
tool kits. The handle has an end cap that can be removed to allow a vacuum
cleaner to be connected, to give fast waste disposal when drilling.
Its inventor says "I had no idea of
the additional uses that would be found - such as sample taking, drilling
hazardous materials and maintaining clean areas."
